SENECA HOLMES
Coach Seneca Holmes brings over 20 years of experience working with kids and young adults through teaching, coaching, and sports camps. A graduate of Cherry Creek High School, Seneca was part of the school’s 1994 5A State Championship football team and also competed in track and field. His athletic journey continued at Fort Lewis College, where he earned RMAC All-Conference honors as a wide receiver and kick returner and was a regional finalist for the prestigious Harlon Hill Award — the Division II equivalent of the Heisman Trophy.
Seneca later transferred to Northwest Missouri State University, where he was a key contributor on back-to-back Division II National Championship football teams in 1998 and 1999. After graduating in 2000, he went on to play professionally with the B.C. Lions in the Canadian Football League and the San Diego Riptide in the Arena Football League.
After wrapping up his playing career, Seneca transitioned into education and coaching — combining his love of sports with a passion for mentoring youth. He began coaching varsity wide receivers at his alma mater, Cherry Creek High School, and also coached track and field at both Cherry Creek and Grandview High School. He earned his teaching certificate in K–12 Physical Education from Metropolitan State University in 2005 and has been teaching ever since.
Over the years, Seneca has made a lasting impact as a teacher and coach. He taught and coached at Smoky Hill High School, serving as Head Track Coach and Varsity Football Offensive Coordinator. Since 2013, he has been teaching PE and Health at Cherokee Trail High School, where he’s also coached football and track — mentoring sprinters and running backs with the same focus and discipline that defined his own playing days.
Seneca’s coaching philosophy is rooted in fundamentals, patience, and positivity. He takes pride in helping kids — especially those new to sports — build confidence and develop essential skills. He believes early exposure to a variety of sports helps children grow not just as athletes, but as people. His goal is to guide young athletes in a way that’s challenging, supportive, and always fun.
Outside the classroom and off the field, Seneca’s greatest joy is spending time with his wife and their three sons. His wife is a kindergarten teacher, and their family is proud to be part of the Cherry Creek School District community.
